The UAE Ministry of Interior's Digital Security Department recently issued a warning about a surge in fraudulent job postings on social media platforms. Scammers exploit job seekers' desire for high-paying jobs, deceiving them and leading to the leakage of personal property and identity information.
Major Saeed Al-Shabli, Deputy Director of the UAE Digital Security Department, stated in an interview that as social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and X become popular channels for recruitment and advertising, fraudsters have found opportunities to exploit these platforms for scams.
These scammers lure job seekers by posting seemingly attractive high-paying job opportunities, inducing them to provide sensitive personal information or pay fictitious fees.
Major Al-Shabli explained that these fake recruitment ads often do not require job seekers to have any experience or professional qualifications, but they do require payment of "fees" such as training fees or contract certification fees, thereby stealing job seekers' money. He also mentioned that scammers often create a sense of urgency, forcing victims to act quickly to "secure" the job.
Another cybersecurity expert also warned that scammers often impersonate certified recruitment agencies, exploiting victims' eagerness to find a job, and deceiving them into paying unreasonable fees. The expert reminds the public to protect personal information, be cautious of online recruitment ads, and avoid disclosing sensitive data.
