The UK and US charity BetBlocker has released a Japanese version of its gambling blocking software. The tool is designed to restrict cross-device access to gambling content.

This update is part of an ongoing project by BetBlocker to provide language-specific versions of its free service. The release of the Japanese version follows the launch of several other language versions in early 2025.

According to data from BMC Public Health (2024), 39 million people in Japan participated in gambling in 2019. It is estimated that 4.4 million people suffered financial losses as a result. The population of Japan in 2020 was approximately 123 million.

Kenta Shintani completed the Japanese translation of the software. BetBlocker confirmed that this work was done voluntarily.

It is worth noting that over 40,000 people use BetBlocker daily, and the software can block access to over 90,000 gambling websites and 1,500 gambling apps.

BetBlocker founder and trustee Duncan Garvie said: "BetBlocker has successfully translated its services into multiple languages and has significantly accelerated the rollout of new language support over the past six months.

However, the majority of our support is focused on languages originating from Europe. Being able to extend our service to important Asian communities is a significant milestone for BetBlocker, helping us move towards a truly international approach, which is what we have always strived for.

We are extremely honored to have the support of civic-minded citizens like Mr. Shintani. Their support positively impacts the lives of hundreds of people every day, ensuring that the Japanese public can access the support offered by the blocking software.
