The Thai government recently announced the official launch of an overseas employment program, providing opportunities for domestic workers to work in the Macau Special Administrative Region of China.
According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Karom Polpornklang, the project is managed by the Employment Department of the Thai Ministry of Labor and involves several large enterprises operating in Macau, including the well-known MGM Grand Paradise Limited.
A total of 73 positions are open for recruitment, covering various fields such as hotel, catering, spa, and casino services, with annual salaries ranging from 53,883 to 93,453 Thai Baht. Positions include catering service staff, bartenders, spa receptionists, front desk personnel, VIP butlers, massage supervisors, international marketing personnel, senior hairdressers, etc., offering diverse positions with attractive remuneration.
This plan was achieved through cooperation between the Thai Labor Office in Hong Kong and the local government of Macau, aiming to expand the legal overseas employment pathways for Thai citizens. Karom stated that Macau is a market full of potential, especially in the service industry, which has a continuous demand for Thai workers with good professional ethics. Thai workers are long praised by foreign employers for their skilled expertise and excellent service attitude.
He further emphasized that the Thai government will continue to cooperate with international institutions to provide more legal, transparent, and safe overseas work opportunities for its citizens, while protecting their rights and benefits.
Interested Thai citizens can submit their applications through the official website of the Overseas Employment Bureau of the Ministry of Labor (toea.doe.go.th), with the application process being open around the clock until April 16, 2025, completely free of charge, with no intermediary fees required.
This program has sparked some public concern about its association with the Macau gaming industry. Although some positions are related to casino services, officials emphasize that the project is a legal employment plan, all positions comply with local laws and regulations, and have been strictly approved by the Ministry of Labor and Macau officials.
As the global economy recovers and the tourism industry restarts, more and more Thais are looking towards the overseas service industry. This recruitment drive to Macau is also seen as an important part of the Thai government's efforts to strengthen the overseas employment delivery system and promote economic and labor export.
