The Curacao Gaming Authority (CGA) recently issued a statement, reaffirming its determination to combat illegal gambling. The regulatory body will issue formal cease and desist orders to all businesses registered in Curacao but operating with foreign gambling licenses.
According to Article 1.2 (1) of the National Gambling Games Regulation (LOK), any operation that is not authorized by the CGA, or that violates the conditions of the license, is not allowed to provide any gambling activities within or organized through Curacao. The CGA clarifies that only operators legally licensed in Curacao are permitted to offer online gambling services.
The CGA points out that many companies registered in Curacao currently hold foreign B2B licenses, which is not only illegal but also misleads players and service providers, and could even foster illegal gambling activities, potentially violating Curacao's criminal law. The regulatory body plans to issue formal notices to cease operations to all such companies in the coming days.
It is noteworthy that BC.Game has obtained a license through Curacao's newly enacted LOK regulatory framework in April 2024. This action comes at a time when Curacao is intensifying its regulatory efforts, attempting to reverse the previously more lenient management approach.
The LOK framework was officially approved by the Curacao Parliament in December 2024, replacing the old online gambling regulatory system that had been in place since the 1990s, marking a new phase in Curacao's gambling regulation.
