In Cambodia, under the intensified nationwide crackdown on online fraud, the Unified Command Committee of Oddar Meanchey Province launched a large-scale joint law enforcement operation on July 17, conducting surprise inspections at 9 suspected online fraud dens in Banteay Ampil County, successfully arresting 103 foreign suspects, including 78 Chinese nationals.
The locations searched included several guesthouses, hotels, rental houses, and resorts. Among those arrested, there were 78 Chinese nationals (including 17 women), 19 Vietnamese nationals (including 16 women), 5 Laotian nationals (all women), and 1 Thai suspect. Law enforcement officers also seized a large amount of computer equipment, firearms, and other tools used in the crimes, and the related physical evidence has been legally confiscated.
All the suspects and items involved have been handed over to the Oddar Meanchey Provincial Police for processing, and the locations involved are simultaneously under lockdown and control.
This operation follows the national unified eradication order issued by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on July 14. The directive requires local law enforcement to crack down on online fraud dens and warns that governors who fail to execute the order will face dismissal and accountability. On July 16, synchronized actions were taken across all provinces in Cambodia, resulting in the arrest of at least 773 suspects from various nationalities including Mainland China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Myanmar, demonstrating Cambodia's iron-fisted resolve for "zero tolerance" against cybercrime.
