On July 24, 2025, at noon, the Cambodian military achieved a decisive victory in a border conflict, completely recapturing key strategic strongholds such as Ta Muen Thom and Ta Krabei ancient temples, successfully expelling all Thai troops from the territory. Currently, the Cambodian military fully controls the aforementioned areas, and the situation is stable.
According to battlefield reports, the Cambodian forces quickly gained the upper hand in the firefight that erupted in the early morning, effectively dismantling Thai provocations and demonstrating strong adaptability and tactical capabilities. In response, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has formally written to the UN Security Council, strongly condemning Thailand's military invasion and requesting an emergency meeting to prevent further escalation of aggression.
In his letter to the Chairman and members of the UN Security Council, Hun Manet specifically pointed out that the Thai armed forces launched an "unprovoked, premeditated, and deliberate" armed attack on multiple areas along the Cambodian-Thai border that morning, involving the provinces of Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey's Ta Muen Thom and Ta Krabei ancient temples, as well as the "Triangle Area." He criticized the Thai side's actions as blatantly violating the UN Charter and the ASEAN Charter, trampling on the basic principles of international law concerning the non-use of force and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defense also issued a stern statement, describing Thai military behavior as "barbaric, brutal, and extreme," and stated that the Cambodian military will use all legitimate means at any cost to counterattack, resolutely defending national territory and sovereignty. Ministry of Defense spokesperson Marie Sujita revealed that the conflict began at 6:30 AM when Thai troops crossed the border into the Ta Muen Thom temple area and initiated infiltration operations along multiple paths.
At 8:30 AM, the Thai side first opened fire, provoking the conflict, and then expanded the battle to Ta Krabei temple, Skull Mountain, and the "Triangle Area," even using warplanes to drop two bombs on a crucial Cambodian defensive line, causing the situation to escalate fully. The Cambodian military legally initiated self-defense counterattacks at 8:47 AM, fully in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, conducting lawful retaliation.
The Ministry of Defense pointed out that the Thai side deliberately mobilized large-scale troops and deployed heavy weapons, attempting to change the border status by force, seriously violating international norms, undermining regional peace, and shaking the international order. The Cambodian side calls on the international community to firmly condemn the Thai side's illegal military provocations and urges it to immediately withdraw troops, stop all aggressive actions, and prevent further deterioration of the situation.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defense reiterated that Cambodia has always advocated resolving disputes peacefully through legal and diplomatic means, but in the face of foreign invasion, the national military is fully prepared for defense and will decisively act when necessary, without retreat. The statement emphasized Cambodia's unwavering commitment to peace, while also defending national territory, sovereignty, and the safety of its people with strong will, never bowing to any form of military threat.
In light of the tense situation, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia also issued a safety reminder today, urging Chinese citizens in Cambodia, especially those near the border areas, to remain highly vigilant, avoid going to the incident areas, and contact the embassy for assistance in case of emergencies.
