In an effort to strengthen its position in the booming U.S. online gaming market, Japan's Sega Samui Holdings has announced the acquisition of Dutch iGaming content creator Stakelogic B.V. The acquisition, executed by its subsidiary Sega Sami Creative Corporation (SSC), is part of Sega Sami's wider plans to expand its gaming business globally.
The final agreement, which will be completed in March 2025, demonstrates Sega Sammy’s commitment to becoming a creative B2B solutions provider, especially in the North American market. The transaction follows the company's recent acquisition of GAN Limited, a significant B2B platform provider in the United States and a B2C online gaming operator in Europe and South America.
Stakelogic is known for its innovative iGaming content, including slot games, live table games and mixed games. The company has gaming certifications in 17 regions. The acquisition aims to combine Stakelogic's unique products with the GAN platform to enhance the competitiveness and influence of Sega Sami's gaming solutions.
In 2022, the U.S. online gaming market (including sports betting and iGaming) will be worth approximately $12 billion. According to data from MVB Bank's Spring 2023 U.S. Online Gaming Report, the market is expected to grow to $27.1 billion by 2027. The expected compound annual growth rate of sports betting in this market is 15%, and the expected compound annual growth rate of iGaming is 11%, bringing huge profits to Sega Sammy. By entering the market early, Sega Sami aims to establish a solid foothold and take advantage of the expectation that more states will legalize iGaming.
Stakelogic's product portfolio includes its groundbreaking Chromakey Studio technology, which allows for cost-effective and customizable live table gaming setups, as well as hybrid gaming that combines slot machine gaming with live casino elements. These innovations will enhance the GAN B2B platform’s offerings to provide North American operators with comprehensive gaming services.
Sega Sammy Senior Executive Vice President and Group Chief Financial Officer Koichi Fukazawa emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition. "We believe that Stakelogic's ability to rapidly develop and deliver unique, high-quality gaming content will make a significant contribution to our strategy and create outstanding synergies by combining our group's strengths," he said in a press release.
Sega Sammy's traditional expertise lies in the development of slot machines and pachinko machines, and it has a large stake in the Paradise City integrated resort in South Korea. The addition of Stakelogic's advanced iGaming content to its product portfolio marks a significant shift towards digital and online gaming, in line with global trends and consumer preferences.
