Philippine immigration data shows that since 2022, more than 2300 Chinese citizens have been deported for allegedly participating in illegal online gambling operations, highlighting the Philippine government's determination to combat illegal online gambling activities.
Immigration officials stated that about half of the deported Chinese citizens were expelled for working in online gambling centers, while others were identified as victims. Additionally, some of the individuals involved are still detained.
Representative Bonifacio Bosita demanded during the hearing that the immigration bureau provide specific numbers of detained individuals. He stated that online gambling has not only failed to bring the anticipated economic benefits but has also bred a significant amount of criminal activities, severely damaging the social order in the Philippines.
Robert Barbers, chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs, pointed out that online gambling companies, under the guise of legitimate operations, have actually become channels for criminal groups to infiltrate the Philippines.
