The Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Wednesday (September 4) that Alice Guo, the former mayor of Banban City, Tarlac Province, also known as the POGO Mayor, was arrested in Tangerang City, Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Indonesian Ministry of Justice stated in a declaration that according to Senior Police Commissioner Audie Latuheru, Alice Guo (commonly known as Alice Guo) was arrested at 11:58 PM on September 3.
The Department of Justice stated: "This development has been confirmed by our counterparts in the immigration bureau, who have confirmed that Ms. Guo is currently detained at the Indonesian Police Detention Center in Jatanras Mabes Polri."
The Minister of Justice, Remula, welcomed this development, stating, "The arrest of Alice Guo demonstrates the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies and the role of international cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice."
"We will ensure that all legal procedures are followed and that she is held accountable for any crimes committed. The Department of Justice is committed to pursuing justice and will continue to coordinate closely with Indonesian authorities to facilitate the necessary legal procedures," he said.
Ms. Guo faces complaints for her alleged involvement in the country's illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO) and her citizenship status is also under scrutiny.
Despite being under surveillance by the immigration bureau due to ongoing investigations, Mr. Guo was still able to leave the United States on July 18 last year.
It is reported that Alice Guo traveled to Malaysia, arrived in Singapore on July 21, and went to Indonesia on August 18.
Alice Guo's sister Shiela and business partner Cassandra Li Ong were previously arrested in Indonesia and have been deported back to the Philippines.
At the Senate Judiciary and Human Rights Subcommittee hearing, Shiela admitted that she left the country by boat with the dismissed mayor.
