The renowned European betting brand NetBet obtained a license from the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) at the end of February 2024, expanding its global influence in one of Europe's most developed internet gambling markets. Upon launching the NetBet platform in Denmark, the platform collaborated with top providers Pragmatic Play and Push Gaming, bringing games such as Razor Returns, Sweet Bonanza, and Gates of Olympus to Danish gambling enthusiasts.
Although NetBet received a positive response after entering the region, the Malta-based operator quickly sought to consolidate its established momentum by establishing multiple game partnership relationships with high-quality game suppliers with excellent industry status.
In late March 2024, one of the world's fastest-growing digital entertainment providers, Playson, revealed that it had partnered with NetBet Denmark to drive the operator's growth through its vibrant selection of games, featuring well-known mechanisms such as Hold and Win.
A week after reaching an agreement with Playson, NetBet Denmark's PR manager Claudia Georgevici announced that the company was now doing business with 1X2 Network. The next day (April 5), two new NetBet provider deals were announced between Amusnet Gaming and G Games. The former, previously the digital division of the physical device supplier EGT, boasts a catalog of over 200 games, while the latter is the creator of successful slots such as El Diablo, Thor's Egg Hunt, and Cheeky Fruits 6 Deluxe.
This online casino, sports betting, and poker operator achieved significant success in April, also striking deals with Sweden's Nolimit City and Malta's Play'n GO, Stakelogic, and Wazdan.
Denmark's Online Gambling Market
In 2012, Denmark chose to regulate interactive games and sports betting on the internet through the Gambling Act, with the Danish national lottery Danske Spil establishing a state monopoly in the sector. The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) was consequently established.
Since 2012, Denmark quickly became one of Europe's most prosperous gambling regions, with the Danish Gambling Authority noting that in the first ten years of the gambling industry's presence in Denmark, the gambling rate increased by 7%, with most of the growth occurring in the internet verticals. The country's remote gambling market is expected to generate $1.16 billion in revenue in 2024, with an annual growth rate of 3.23% over the next five years, expected to reach a market size of $1.36 billion. By 2024, half ($570 million) of the revenue should come from online casinos, with a user penetration rate reaching 15.5%. Sports betting is expected to bring in $360 million in revenue in 2024, with Denmark's internet lottery expected to bring in $230 million in revenue this year.
While these figures are impressive, they show a slight decline per user compared to the market in 2022 and 2023. It is estimated that the online casino vertical market will gradually decline year by year, but the remote sports betting sector should remain stable.
Research by the Danish Gambling Authority shows that Danes are most keen on lottery and scratch card gambling, with 13.4% of the population playing these games, while 8.6% bet on sports betting, and 4.1% bet on online casino-style products.
