According to a survey, the luxury car involved in the shooting incident that occurred on Saturday in Pasay was actually a stolen vehicle.
As per the confession of the arrested Filipino suspect, who was a driver and bodyguard for a Chinese businessman, the involved luxury car was owned by his employer who runs an automobile business.
It is alleged that the criminals fled in the car from Makati, with the suspect and his employer chasing them in a minivan from behind, all the way to Pasay, where they tried to stop the fugitives by ramming into the luxury car.
The suspect defended himself by saying, "That BMW was stolen, it belongs to my boss. He was driving, responsible for the chase, and I was just in the back seat."
The dashcam recorded the incident, showing that after the Chinese employer got out of the luxury car, the occupants started shooting. However, witnesses stated that the minivan chasing them also fired at the luxury car, blew out its tires, causing the vehicle to stop, and a fierce gunfight ensued between the two parties.
Colonel Samuel Pabonita, chief of the Pasay City Police Station, stated that the police responded quickly and followed the chasing vehicles. When the suspects realized that the police were nearby, the passengers in the BMW immediately fled, but were eventually arrested by the police.
He added that one of the suspects also snatched an electric bicycle during the escape. Fortunately, the police intercepted the suspect at a checkpoint in Parañaque and found firearms on him.
The police confiscated bullets, firearms, two knives, and multiple license plates from the suspect. The suspect will face multiple charges including violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, reckless property damage, and one of the Chinese suspects will also be charged with stealing an electric bicycle. Currently, the police are conducting an in-depth investigation into all possible angles of the incident.
