Lottopar held a lecture to alert Paraná Clube athletes about the risks of match-fixing in football. The meeting took place at Érton Coelho Queiroz Stadium and gathered youth team categories. The contents were produced by the authority based on regulatory experience and also from the exchange of experiences with responsible gaming and sports integrity institutions.
The operations director of Lottopar, Fabio Veiga, accompanied by the operations director's advisor, Pablo Wosniacki, gave a lecture on sports integrity to the under-18 players of Paraná Clube on Monday (30).
The meeting occurred at Érton Coelho Queiroz Stadium, in the Olympic Village of Boqueirão, where the youth team athletes are concentrated, and also gathered the nutritionist and coordinator of the Health and Performance Department, Rafael Morais Gonçalves, and the coordinator of the youth categories of the club, Luciano Rossi.
The contents were produced by the authority based on regulatory experience and also with the exchange of experiences with the world's leading institutions of responsible gaming and sports integrity, with which Lottopar is associated.
“The Union of Lotteries for Sports Integrity (Ulis) is one of the largest sports monitoring companies in the world and one of the most recent works was the monitoring of the Paris Olympics. Today, Lottopar is the only state lottery in Brazil that has access to this sports monitoring and with their expertise, we can also provide educational guidance to Paraná Clube, which kindly opened its doors to talk with the athletes,” highlighted Veiga.
In the lecture, norms, regulations, and legislations that prohibit athletes' participation in betting were detailed, with emphasis on Ordinance No. 67/2024 of Lottopar that prohibits the registration and making of bets on sites authorized by Lottopar by any person who may have or can have influence on the outcome of a sports-themed event.
This includes athletes participating in competitions organized by entities part of the National Sports System, people holding positions as directors, coaches, trainers, referees, and assistant referees of a sports modality.
“It is very important this awareness from the base, especially with situations that are increasingly highlighted in the media, including renowned athletes being mentioned in investigations. With this initiative, we can avoid many situations, expose possible problems, and thereby anticipate solutions,” highlighted Luciano Rossi, coordinator of the youth categories of Paraná Clube.
Moreover, the athletes present during the lecture could see some examples of football players who participated in betting and were punished. Channels for reporting suspected manipulation cases offered by Lottopar were also shown.
“Athletes should never bet. And in Paraná, with the regulation of the sector, the supervision is even more intense. We have an ordinance that addresses this topic, a tool that monitors sports events and reporting channels for sending suspicions of manipulation,” Veiga emphasized.
Wosniacki also stated that there are laws that punish those who opt for deviation in sports integrity and the highest entity of football, FIFA, also prohibits players, referees, agents, and other people involved in football from having any financial interest or direct or indirect participation in betting.
“In Europe, the fine is heavy, around 100,000 Swiss francs, equivalent to R$ 630,000 in the current conversion, as well as the prohibition of engaging in football-related activities for a period of three years, or even, in more severe cases, the ban from football-related activities,” he stated.
For November, when the professional football calendar of Paraná Clube will be resumed, another lecture is planned, this time with the squad and the technical committee of the main team.
