Companies grouped in the National Association of Games and Lotteries will participate in the program "Betting is not for children".

Brazil.- The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) will carry out, until Saturday, October 12, the awareness campaign "Betting is not for children". The idea is to combat the use of betting platforms by minors. Although the registration of minors is already prohibited by legal platforms, the goal is to raise awareness among parents and other guardians to prevent children's access through impersonation or identity falsification tactics.

The Law 14.790 and the Ordinance No. 1.231 of the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), from the Ministry of Finance, already prohibit betting sites from allowing the registration of minors under 18 years old. However, only from January 1 will the facial recognition feature be mandatory to access them. In addition, thousands of websites that have not applied for a federal license and have no intention of doing so continue to operate illegally in the country, leaving children exposed.

In this regard, the ANJL's campaign aims to raise adult awareness and reaffirm to the country the industry's commitment to not allowing children's access. "Until Saturday, Children's Day, ANJL's social networks will communicate to everyone (market, government, parents, and other guardians) that betting houses are totally against children and adolescents joining their platforms," stated Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of the ANJL.

Leonardo Benites, Director of Communication of the ANJL and who has been working for years in advertising for the betting industry, considered it important that sector actors also convey the same message. "Serious betting houses, which submit to regulations, have no interest in children. But we all must be vigilant towards those who do not comply and will continue to violate what the legislation says on this topic and protect children and adolescents."

In the task of building a regulated market, from the ANJL they highlighted last week that all the companies associated with the entity are part of the list of companies that submitted their application to operate from December in Brazil. Thus, the companies met the requirements of Ordinance 1.475 and will also be able to continue operating between October and December of this year. According to them, the complete adherence of member companies to the regulatory provisions highlights their commitment to the regulation of the sector in the country and to responsible gaming.
