A South Korean mother reported to the police that her son was confined and abused in a park in Cambodia.
However, when the police found the South Korean youth based on the clues, he firmly denied being confined and abused. He claimed to have a high-paying job and freedom of movement in the park, believing that the misunderstanding arose from not contacting his family.
The spokesperson for the Cambodian National Police announced that on October 29, the National Police Command Center hotline 117 received a call from the South Korean mother, claiming that her son, Choi Dae-mun (phonetic), was confined in Kratie Province and requested police assistance to rescue him.
The police in Kratie Province, based on the information provided by the family, located Choi Dae-mun in an economic zone in Sambor town, but found the situation to be very different from what the South Korean mother described. There were no signs of Choi being confined or abused.
Choi Dae-mun told the police that he found a company in Cambodia that offered a high-paying job, providing meals and accommodation, and allowed freedom of movement without any restrictions. He believed that the misunderstanding arose because he did not contact his family during his work period.
However, the announcement mentioned that Choi Dae-mun had concealed some information from the police during the investigation, including details about his arrival in Cambodia, the nature of his job, and how he described his work situation to his family, leading to misunderstandings that caused domestic and international public opinion and misled the public.
The announcement stated that based on the above circumstances, Choi Dae-mun has been handed over to the Immigration Department for deportation and is banned from re-entering Cambodia.
