A woman surnamed Wang, in her twenties from Kaohsiung, traveled to Thailand on November 7th. However, her boyfriend received a distress call from her, claiming she was held at gunpoint and taken to the Thai-Myanmar border river, after which all contact was lost;
It turned out that Wang's close friend, who works in Thailand, invited her abroad, even offering to pay for her plane ticket. Unexpectedly, upon arrival, Wang was immediately threatened with a gun. Her parents also received ransom calls, with the ransom amount initially set at 1 million and later reduced to 800,000. The police are now involved in international negotiations to assist, and the case is under investigation.
Abducted upon arrival in Thailand on 11/6
The police stated that Wang departed for Thailand on November 6th and indeed had records of entering Bangkok, Thailand; Wang's mother told the police that her daughter usually lived with her boyfriend, who suddenly informed her of her disappearance recently. After the last call with her boyfriend, there was no further news, and Wang's mother also received a ransom demand call from the criminals.
Long-lost close friend invites to Thailand
Wang's boyfriend revealed that a few days ago, Wang received a call from a close friend who had been out of touch for a while, claiming she was working in Thailand and inviting Wang to visit. Initially, Wang declined due to lack of travel funds, but her friend offered to pay for her flight ticket and expressed a desire to meet after a long time, promising someone would pick her up at the airport. However, upon her arrival, Wang was threatened and taken away by armed strangers.
Wang seeks help during abduction
During the process of being taken away by locals, Wang managed to call her boyfriend, informing him that she was being transferred between vehicles and was very scared, unable to contact her close friend for help.
Although her boyfriend told her to "run away!" since her phone and passport had not been taken, Wang said there were people with guns in front and behind the car, making it impossible to escape. After mentioning crossing a river, there was no further contact.
Police notify relevant units for joint investigation
Wang's parents learned of their daughter's abduction on the 7th, and immediately reported it to the police the next morning. It was confirmed that she was taken to a certain park in Myanmar, and they received 2 or 3 ransom demands. The first demand was for 1 million New Taiwan Dollars for her release, soon followed by a message offering a discount to 800,000. Wang's father worried that even if the money was paid, the criminals might not release his daughter as promised.
The Xinxing Sub-bureau stated that they have contacted the family and followed procedures to notify the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Emergency Search Center for assistance, and have requested the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office to direct the investigation, actively pursuing the case as a human trafficking incident.
