This morning, Prime Minister Hong Mana convened a meeting of the Supreme Advisory Council to hear the suggestions and opinions of representatives from various political parties on government work.
At the meeting, a representative of a political party raised the issue of online gambling and suggested that the government further intensify its crackdown.
In response, Chen Bo Pipilong, the spokesperson for the Supreme Advisory Council, stated in an interview after the meeting that the government attaches great importance to combating online gambling, has always taken a series of measures, and strictly cracks down on such illegal activities to maintain social order and protect citizens' rights and interests.
It is understood that the Supreme Advisory Council was established in 2018 and is an important consultation platform between the government and various political parties.
The committee consists of members from the ruling People's Party and several other political parties participating in the elections. Its main responsibilities include proposing suggestions and opinions on government policies, providing feedback on draft laws, and reporting inaction or violations by government officials.
The Cambodian government recently announced that it will take strict measures to combat the promotion of online gambling. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Su Suka issued a ban on December 4, explicitly prohibiting any form of online and offline gambling-related promotional activities, with violators to be held legally accountable.
According to the Ministry of Interior's statement, in recent years, public figures and internet celebrities have been exploited by illegal gambling groups to promote gambling through social media and other channels, attracting the public to participate in illegal online gambling. The Ministry of Interior pointed out that this behavior poses a serious threat to social security and urgently needs to be curbed.
The ban explicitly stipulates that individuals or organizations may not publish content related to gambling through social media, traditional media, or other platforms, including promoting gambling websites, social media accounts, etc. All images, videos, and advertisements related to gambling are included in the scope of the ban, and violators will face legal sanctions.
The Ministry of Interior emphasizes that to ensure the effective implementation of the ban, it will join forces with law enforcement agencies to strengthen supervision and adopt a zero-tolerance attitude towards all violations. This ban aims to address social issues caused by gambling, maintain social order, and public order.
The Ministry of Interior calls on the public to actively cooperate and support this ban to protect the country's social stability and public safety.
