The combined result of the Instagram profiles of sports betting houses in Brazil in November showed a 29% decrease compared to October and marks the third consecutive month of decline in overall numbers. However, the figure is still higher than in November 2023. This is the conclusion presented by Samba Digital, an agency specialized in the sports betting and online gaming sector, in this article for GMB.

The profiles of companies operating in Brazil, monitored monthly by Samba Digital, an agency specialized in sports marketing and iGaming, accumulated 3.9 million interactions in November and reached its lowest number in 2024, surpassing the mark of 5.3 million interactions in January.

With 896 thousand interactions, the lowest mark for a leading company since the monitoring began to be published monthly, Betão led the segment on Instagram. The top 5 was formed by Reals Bet (800 thousand), Esportes da Sorte (501 thousand), EstrelaBet (218 thousand), and VaideBet (202 thousand).

Except for Reals Bet, whose performance increased from 575 to 800 thousand interactions, all other companies in the top 5 showed declines when comparing their performances between October and November.

The highlight (negative) is Esportes da Sorte. Leading in October with 1.1 million interactions, the house had a drop of over 50% and closed November with 501 thousand, in 3rd place.

Growth of 23% compared to 2023

The 3.94 million interactions obtained in November 2024 means that the segment grew compared to the previous year when, in the same period, the profiles accumulated 3.19 million interactions. The growth was 23% compared to 2023.

The benefit of constantly monitoring the segment allows us to understand that, even with the three consecutive declines noted by Samba Digital's monitoring, the market, in a broader view, still grows satisfactorily and shows that social networks are important forms of connection and awareness for brands in relation to the target audience”, mentions Camila Cunha, director of the iGaming department at Samba Digital.

Concentrated follower growth

Two sports betting companies concentrated 89.41% of all the growth, that is, new followers, of all the monitored companies. With respectively 549 thousand and 457 thousand new followers, Reals Bet and Betão concentrated the growth and made the sector have an increase of 69% compared to the month of October, when the companies accumulated 662 thousand new followers. The growth of followers in November was 1.12 million.

Excluding Reals Bet and Betão, EstrelaBet and BetSpeed, third and fourth in Growth, showed declines of 17% and 22% respectively.

The Government of Paraná has just authorized an investment of R$ 10 million to build the Forensic Laboratory to Combat Financial Crimes for the Scientific Police. The resources come from activities regulated by Lottopar. The Integrated Center for Data Processing and Analysis (CIPAD) will be located at the agency's headquarters in Curitiba.

The new center will be used for detecting the practice of money laundering, concealment of assets, illegal financial operations, and related crimes, further promoting the fight against corruption of individuals and legal entities.

The laboratory will contribute to investigations on undue payments, fraudulent contracts, cold and paved invoices, overpricing or overcharging of products and services, circulation of money through tax havens, concealment of values and assets, employment of "straw men" and "front men", fraudulent or parallel accounting, and mechanisms of money laundering.

Lottopar was born with the purpose of supervising and regulating lottery operations, providing safe entertainment to the people of Paraná but above all with a social return. This was the first resource allocated to the Government of Paraná to reinforce public security actions, especially of the Scientific Police of the State”, highlighted the president of Lottopar, Daniel Romanowski.

According to the Secretary of Public Security, Hudson Leôncio Teixeira, the investment aims to reinforce the activities developed by the Civil and Scientific Police. “This allocation of resources will be specifically aimed at creating the Integrated Center for Data Processing and Analysis, which aims to support the Judicial Police in combating money laundering and organized crime”, he stated.

The new Center is a structure that will integrate the Civil Police and the Scientific Police in a technological environment, which will intensify the expertise and investigations in crimes related to money laundering, organized crime, and the fight against corruption”, explained the general director of the Scientific Police of Paraná, Luiz Rodrigo Grochocki.

The CIPAD will also underpin reports from the State Division to Combat Corruption, the Delegation of Swindles, the Cybercrime Combat Center, the State Division of Narcotics, and the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), from the Public Ministry of Paraná.

This transfer of resources will assist in structuring the CIPAD, which will be a joint unit with the purpose of intensifying the prevention and confrontation of actions by organized crime, money laundering, and also the fight against corruption in the state of Paraná”, said the general delegate of the PCPR, Silvio Jacob Rockembach.

Lottopar, created in 2021, was the first state lottery in the country to regulate the exploitation of sports betting – currently, five companies can operate in the State. It was also the first to make concessions on B3, in the modalities of instant ("scratch"), prognostics, and passive.

According to the regulation, in addition to the grants from the companies that operate the games, the State Government receives a percentage of the profits from the companies, which are used in housing policies, public security, and social actions. This is the first transfer of resources from Lottopar to public security.

Caixa Econômica Federal is taking steps to reduce the problems caused by betting, especially for people in vulnerable situations. The financial institution has launched a new responsible gaming program, which seeks to educate about the risks of compulsive activity, protect minors, and support those who face difficulties in controlling addiction.

The program includes actions such as training for entrepreneurs who manage lottery outlets, focusing on identifying and preventing risk behaviors among bettors. In addition, gambling now has a self-assessment system.

Among the questions, players answer about the time spent thinking about bets, attempts to stop or reduce gambling, and possible lies about their frequency to friends and relatives.

At the end of the test, the result appears with guidance for the user.

In the digital environment, Caixa has implemented control measures. Now, online betting can only be done by people over 18 years old, with time and value limits. Tools have also been adopted to monitor possible risks, aligned with the best international practices.

The initiative seeks to prevent the routine of betting from causing financial and emotional harm. For more information about the program and how it can help the bettor, visit Loterias Online. See also the Responsible Gaming website.
