The President of the Republic of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, has enacted a new law that strengthens the capabilities of the National Commission of Gambling (Conajzar) to combat the clandestine exploitation of gambling in the country. This measure aims to break the monopoly in the industry, regulate digital activities, and especially protect minors.
Carlos Liseras, head of Conajzar, announced in a press conference from Mburuvicha Róga that this regulation will allow the blocking and intervention of clandestine gambling signals. The law includes a penalty of up to five years in prison for those who engage in illegal gambling activities. Additionally, it orders the seizure of equipment used in these practices and establishes the distribution of licenses in three categories granted by the State, affecting sectors such as the Lottery and sports betting.
Liseras highlighted that with the new Law 7438, Conajzar now depends on the DNIT, which has the necessary operability throughout the national territory to comply with the law. "We will be able to dispose of the blocking of all clandestine gambling signals, that is, those online casinos and/or any form of online gambling that is being exploited clandestinely", he commented.
This new law not only modernizes the regulatory structure but also adapts it to the demands of the current market, eliminating the monopoly in the sector and promoting fairer competition. With this, it benefits both providers and users, creating a more professional, stable, and solvent regulatory body, with a legal framework that meets the needs of the new times.
