James Argo and Camilo Riffo urged the municipality to take action against the illegal casinos operating in the center of the Chilean city.
Chile.- The city of Concepción is facing a growing concern about the illegality of casinos operating right in the center, a situation that was recently taken up again by the city's Chamber of Commerce. According to the entity, the 13 casinos that were closed last September in a joint operation by the Police of Investigations and the Public Ministry have reopened their doors, defying local regulations by operating without a municipal license.
In response to this situation, two former mayoral candidates of Concepción, James Argo and Camilo Riffo, called on municipal authorities to address the problem of illegal casinos and other suspicious commercial activities.
Argo, who was a candidate in the last elections, assured that the impunity in the operation of these premises is due to the lack of effective oversight by the municipality. "Not only should action be taken against the casinos, but also against any activity that does not comply with the law and that is affecting the safety and well-being of the inhabitants of Concepción," he declared.
For his part, Camilo Riffo, who has also run for mayor of the city on two occasions, pointed to the lack of definitive measures to address the social problems of the area. "The right has applied patchwork solutions. We need a decisive action to combat the criminal groups that have taken over the center of Concepción," Riffo expressed.
