The highly anticipated African eSports Championship is currently underway at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, Morocco, and will continue until August 21st. The championship kicked off yesterday with a grand opening ceremony.

Over 180 athletes from 17 countries are competing in five categories: CS2 Open, CS2 Women's, MLBB Open, MLBB Women's, and PUBG Mobile. This event showcases the rapid development of eSports in Africa and serves as the second stage of the IESF African regional qualifiers, determining the final African slots for the World eSports Championships.

Hicham El Khlifi, chairman of the African Digital Sports Union (ACDS) and the Moroccan Royal eSports Federation, stated, "Hosting the IESF African eSports Championship in Casablanca is a milestone for African eSports. It reflects our continent's growing passion and potential in the digital sports arena. This event is not just a competition but a declaration of progress, showcasing the talent and spirit of African athletes to the world. We are proud to lead this transformative moment."

The top teams from this championship will represent Africa at the World eSports Championships held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2024.

Betting companies have already provided odds for various outcomes. Currently, teams from South Africa and Egypt are favored due to their strong performances in previous competitions. Particularly, the South African team, known for its strategic capabilities, is considered a major contender. Meanwhile, last year's champion, Bilal Mohamed from Kenya, is also highly favored in individual events. Betting enthusiasts can find odds and place bets through major platforms like Bet365 and William Hill, which offer comprehensive coverage and attractive offers for this event.

This championship not only marks an important milestone for African eSports but also showcases emerging gaming talents, as these top teams compete on a global stage for the chance to represent their countries.

The establishment of the African eSports Championship aims to expand eSports across the continent. The event is sponsored by the International eSports Federation (IESF) and various local African enterprises, aiming to provide a platform for African gamers to showcase their talents on the global stage.

Since its inception, the championship has achieved many significant milestones, including its first offline event in 2024. Last year, Bilal Mohamed from Kenya made history by becoming the first Kenyan player to win the African eSports Championship. This victory highlights the increasingly fierce competition and emerging talent in the African eSports scene.
