The company filed a lawsuit demanding a precautionary decision that allows it to continue its activities.
Brazil.- The betting house Esportes da Sorte is seeking judicial authorization to operate throughout Brazil, as since January it has been prohibited from conducting activities outside the state of Rio de Janeiro due to the lack of a license from the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), linked to the Ministry of Finance.
Until recently, the company operated with the authorization of the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery (Loterj), but the territorial limitation of this permit prevents it from carrying out operations and advertising outside the state. Given the urgency of the situation, Esportes da Sorte filed a lawsuit requesting a precautionary decision, and now awaits the response from the Justice.
The conflict intensified after the decision of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) last Monday, January 6, which reaffirmed the prohibition of operating nationally for companies with state licenses, limiting their activities to the jurisdiction of Rio de Janeiro. This affects 25 companies accredited by Loterj, including Esportes da Sorte. The company also awaits an official communication from the SPA to understand the next steps in the process of obtaining the federal license.

In an official statement, Esportes da Sorte stated: “Given the urgency of the authorization, the company filed an action with a request for protection and is awaiting approval. Additionally, the group emphasizes that it has not received any notification from the SPA about the next steps necessary to grant the license and is awaiting a public statement from the competent bodies”.
